12-month immunisation

a rite of passage for 12-month old babies (in our household at least) - the MMR jab!

brought emma to the clinic yesterday for this, as well as 2 other vaccines due at this age in Australia (the Hib and Meningococcal C). poor bub - 3 shots at one time! left arm, right arm and left thigh...
but she's definitely a toughie - only cried when the actual injection was taking place. stopped the minute i started hugging and patting her :)
now i'm just keeping my fingers crossed she doesnt experience any of the side effects. we've got a flight to catch this fri and i want her to be well for that. some of you may be asking why we didnt delay the shot till after our hols? well, i'd rather be safe than sorry - especially if you remember what we went thro' with ethan at 18-mths when i was just ONE WEEK late at getting his chicken pox jab! :O
and guess what? emma's put on 1kg in the last month and now weighs in at 9.11kg :D

weaned

just for the record, i wanted to say that i've completely weaned emma off just before xmas. goodbye fugly maternity bras and hellooooo BEER!

anyhow, she has been pretty amazing in picking up new 'tricks' lately. she learns extremely quickly by imitating her big brother. she now knows how to 'sayang' us too, in the same way that ethan does (by placing her face near ours and going "mmm-meh!"). she's also been blowing raspberries, placing her fingers on her lips and making funny sounds - all compliments of ethan too.

she's also taken a keen interest in cars and trucks... which i hope will change once she gets a bit older! ethan's been quite a cool bro - he'll usually share 1 or 2 of his toy cars with her. and when she cries, he'll try and pacify her by offering his cars too. sweet huh?

i'm also proud to say ethan's told his first tattertale. he came running to me the other day and said "mei mei wan feng shan" (mei mei is playing with the fan). that of course sent me running to the room to stop her. ethan happily trotted behind me into the room and went "mei mei - NO!". oooh. a disciplinarian! of course, when he plays with the fan he thinks it's perfectly ok. oh well.

alright. gotta go now. the 2 imps are up to no good again. i must say, after 2 weeks of being a stay at home mom, i'm all ready to go back to work again. honestly, being a SAHM is the hardest job in the world!

"melbourne cup"

we don't take bets though ;)

19 degrees

yeah... pretty normal for melbourne weather. but in summer?!?

anyway it's been slightly over a week since ye ye and nai nai left for singapore. that means we've been handling the 2 critters all on our own since xmas eve. the fact that i'm still blogging is a good sign, cos it means i haven't gone and base-jumped off a skyscraper sans parachute (good thing that melbourne doesnt have too many high rise buildings anyway).

it's been really tough, and i have to say i miss my inlaws' help big time! at least during the night if ethan wakes up, they'd be able to help settle him again while my only 'job' is to fulfill the empress' whims and fancies. for the past few nights, both of them have been waking, one after the other, either asking for milk or just wanting some comfort (ethan has developed a really bad habit of needing me to sit in his room while he falls asleep - he wasnt' like this before!). anyway having to move back n forth between 2 rooms at 3am in the morning (emma still sleeps with us - we tried letting them sleep together in the same room but that was a disaster cos NO ONE got any sleep that way) is certainly not my idea of fun - and on a particularly bad nite i get only 3 hrs of sleep. yes... i feel sorry for me too. but it's still fine now since i'm off work, but once i start back at the office on 12 jan, i think i'm gonna need more zzzz's than that! plus there's the housework, laundry, cooking (so far no one's been rushed to the A&E so that's a good thing too), etc.... how not to be cranky?!?

i'm just crossing my fingers and hoping this is a passing phase for ethan, and that he'll continue sleeping thro the nite like he did when his grandparents were here. as for emma, even tho she's still waking 2 or 3 times a night, she is so much better now cos all i need to do is pat her ass to get her off to lala land again :)
